I use paint to share my interpretation of the world around me. I work with acrylics on canvas or board, and often embellish works with gold leaf, metallic paints and resin coatings. I use a variety of application tools – brushes, palette knives, sponges, airbrushes, and an assortment of repurposed tools.
Digital painting software is also included in my toolbox. These tools help me to refine concepts before putting paint to canvas, and are used to prepare stencils and other painting aids.
Abstraction (or extraction) gives me the freedom to focus on specific parts of the world that I want to share. Years of experience as a photographer helps me to focus on specific parts of a scene. My love of black and white imagery is a bonus in filtering out all but the essential forms and lines in a scene.
Living and working internationally for many years has given me a priceless background as an artist. Part of that international living experience was over 7 years in West Africa. It has been rewarding to bring the bold colors and forms of African art into my current work.
